What is ALS:

Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), also known as called Lou Gehrig's disease is a rapidly progressive, fatal neurological disease that attacks the nerve cells (neurons) responsible for controlling voluntary muscles.  The average life span from diagnosis is two to five years. There is no cure.

 

About the Packard Center:

The Robert Packard Center for ALS Research at Johns Hopkins, established in 2000, is the only international scientific collaboration dedicated solely to curing amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). They fund over 150 scientific investigators from leading research centers around the world to execute their innovative, promising, focused projects. The Packard Center facilitates intense scientific collaboration across institutions and administrative boundaries to move quickly on ALS.
